LOST AND FOUND

C’est en accumulant des photographies trouvées, ça et là, au hasard de mes pas, que j’en suis venue à m’intéresser au destin de ces clichés perdus. Pourquoi ont-ils été rejetés? Ont-ils même été montrés?

Pour tenter de répondre à ces questions, j’ai entrepris une série d’actions en vue de retrouver les sujets qui figurent sur ces images. Une quête qui m’amènera à remettre en cause la notion d’identité par un processus de substitution. Un jeu de simulation où chaque personne photographiée sera invitée à calquer la gestuelle d’un inconnu. Le temps de la prise de vue, réalité et fiction se confondent.

Lost and Found est une habile reconstitution de situations qui ont existé ailleurs, à d’autres moments et qui ont été vécues par d’autres individus qui eux, évoluent aujourd’hui différemment. Un lien avec le passé qui donne une seconde vie à ces clichés sous le regard du spectateur, libre de compléter ou d’interpréter le récit comme bon lui semble.

As I walked the streets of Montreal I would find photographs. In time, this collection came to fascinate me. Why were they tossed away? Had they ever been seen?

In a bid to address these questions I set about a series of actions to find people who could be the subjects of these images. A search that would lead me to an exploration of identity through substitution. A pursuit of pretense where each person photographed would be asked to copy the gesture of the anonymous.

Lost and Found is a clever reconstruction of situations that existed elsewhere, in other times and were lived by individuals whose lives have evolved differently. A link with the past that gives a second life to these snapshots through the eyes of us, the spectator, free to complete to the narrative as we wish.
